Analyze

Because teachers often remain at a single school district for many years, they are less likely to be searching for new career opportunities. However, being active on LinkedIn can provide teachers with surprising benefits. The largest networking platform offers teachers opportunities to learn and share while connecting them with career opportunities should the need arise. This eLearning module shows educators how they can use LinkedIn to their advantage.

In the preparation phase, I interviewed subject matter experts and prospective learners, including LinkedIn expert, Peter Walpole, as well as current and transitioning teachers. In those conversations, my SME shared a wealth of resources on the topic. Current and transitioning teachers expressed that they did not know what it meant to be active on LinkedIn or how LinkedIn could help them in their career. After finishing the needs analysis, I began the iterative design process.

Design

The Text-Based Storyboard

Interviews with my SME served as the basis for the text-based storyboard. This information was presented in four sections, including a justification of LinkedIn’s usefulness for current and transitioning teachers, how to navigate the networking functionalities of the platform, tips on optimizing the LinkedIn profile, and ways to engage one’s network. After several rounds of edits, we decided that optimizing the LinkedIn profile would be covered in a separate module.

Visual Mockups

After writing the text-based storyboard, I used Adobe XD and Adobe After Effects to create visual mockups of key slides. I used FreePik to source vector images that served as the basis for my characters and backgrounds. I imported these images into Adobe XD to create visual prototypes depicting how my key slides would appear in Adobe XD. Within Adobe XD, it was easy to iterate on slide design and make changes to scale, visual hierarchy, balance, and contrast.

Visual Storyboard and Mockups

This module has a heavy focus on content rather than decision-making, so I chose to use Adobe After Effects and Vyond to develop assets for this module. I created a visual layout of the title slides and several key scenes. These were refined using feedback from key stakeholders.

Interactive Prototype

Next, I developed a prototype of the second section of the module, “Navigating the Platform.” I made adjustments to scenes and audio based on additional rounds of feedback.

Develop

Finally, I developed assets for the remaining sections of the module in After Effects and Vyond. I finalized my project in Articulate 360.
